Video Screen size

Postby theinvoker » 10 Oct 2007 18:45

Hi everybody, this is my first question....
I would like to know if it's possible to set a specific dimension of the window player and keep and adjust movies to that dimension and not adjust the window to the movie dimension......

Thanks

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

Yes there is. You'll first have to turn off "Embed video in interface" (Preferences -> (tab) Interface ->(tab) Main interfaces -> wxWidgets -> (disable) Embed video in interface, save and restart video).

Next you'll need to go back into the Preferences and change the video width and height (Preferences -> Video. Scroll down and it's under "Window properties".) to your desired settings. You'll also need to play around with the X Y coordinates to position the video window where you want it.

In the path you told me i also saw "size to video".....i disabled that option and it seems to work.i couldn't do what you said because i need the video embebbed with controls......
But i noticed that this woks only with default skin and not with other skins :(
I need to use other skins because the default one has a bad seek bar.....i't difficult to skip from a point to another because the cursor don't go where i click.Sorry if I can't explian you well what i mean,i hope you can understand.

What skin is giving you this problem? Some skins like the "Default" skin, that's the name of the skin, should work with both embedded and none embedded mode.

Default=wxWidgets skin
Other skins=any other skin of "skinnable interface" (my favourite is Askin but also default is ok)

I mean that "size to video" option is only fo wxWidget skin,so if i disable that option and i use sxWidget skin, all is ok.VLC remeber its size when i close it.But iF i use another skin VLC doen't remember the size.

I know for the "Default" skin you can click on the resize button which is located on the top-right corner of that skin, it might work the same for Askin as well. This will put the skin in compact mode and the video window will automatically be detached from the skin; your previous settings for position and video window size will be applied.

If you explain me in clear terms what you would like, I will try to do it for the Qt interface. But be precise.

First of all,i'm using windows XP.
I would like VLC not to resize at video dimensions, but to remain at the same dimensions i had it before closing it.
This happens at startup when i open different movies (.mpg .avi with different format).EXample:i'm watching a movie, and in this moment VLC is 15cm x 10cm (on my monitor) .....if i open another file,VLC becomes smaller and i have to resize it.
I have found out the option "size to video" in Preferences-Interface-main interface-wxWidgets(advanced options). If i disable this option, everything is as i want, but it's ok only if i use wxWidget skin;if i use "set main interface to skinnable" and then a i choose a skin (i use default or Askin),that option doesn't work.
I know for the "Default" skin you can click on the resize button which is located on the top-right corner of that skin, it might work the same for Askin as well. This will put the skin in compact mode and the video window will automatically be detached from the skin; your previous settings for position and video window size will be applied.
In this case i would have controls and video in separate windows and this is a thing i hate.

Well, the skin mode doesn't support that, I am afraid...
Nor Qt.

And is it not possible to add that options aldo dor skinnable interface?
I use skins because of the problem on the seek bar.......why (in the wxWidgets interface) can't i select the point i want on the seek bar?I have to take the cursor and then move it on tha bar......but if i click on the barmthe cursor doesn't go where i clicked.I hoope you understand what i mean.

Next version won't have the seek bar problem in non-skin mode. I promise you!
About adding this to skin, I don't think it will be ready for next version.

Ah ok.....i don't need both things....1 is enough,thanks
I also saw that you're adding a Media Library like WMP and "show controls in full-screen"....is it right.
These features are really useful!

Show controls in fullscreen is not really working yet.

i have just found out that in VLC 0.9 there isn't this feature anymore...
I mean "size to video" in wxWidgets.

So,now VLC always resize at video dimensions?
