Is it possible to take screenshots of videos while they're playing?
When I press Print Screen it doesnt take a screenshot.

Disable "overlay" in the Video section of the preferences. now try printscreen again. it should work. (Video will be slower because the video card isn't handling it directly anymore)

i have a curious bug : when i take a screenshot, it is taken but without the VLC output (even without the 'Overlay' option), ie the window appear (with the frames) but the place where the pictures should appear is compltetely black. Yet, after my opening the screenshot (as a picture), i can see by "transparency" the VLC output appearing on my screenshot where there should have been just some black. And i tried to open the screenshot with several softwares !

Are you sure you closed the video window and reopened it before trying to take the screenshot?
If you didn't, the preferences were not yet applied, which would explain the behaviour you describe
