Streaming to Microsoft TV IPTV Edition Set-top Box

Postby mno » 06 Feb 2007 21:27

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is not the correct place for this. I am new to the forum. I've done a lot of searches on the Internet, and it seems that I will unlikely be able to accomplish what I want to do, but am trying this place as a last resort.

I am a subscriber to the Club Internet (in France) ADSL 2+ and IPTV package. They use the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software running on (from what I could gather) a Scientific Atlanta (Cisco) STB model KMM3210 (on their website, this model number is not listed for some reason). The STB is running Windows CE 5.0. After a quick port scan of the STB (which responds to ping, etc), I found that port 8080 is open on the box, and I guess that it's using this port.

What I'm trying to do is stream videos from a computer on the same network using VLC 0.8.6 to this box, and I've tried a variety of options within VLC, including using HTTP, UDP, etc with SAP and without and so on. None work. I am sure that the box is programmed to listen to only specific channels.

Through digging around the (very limited) technical information about Microsoft TV on MSDN, I found out that it's just a set of APIs pretty much that can run on top of any Windows, and CE 5 was just chosen I guess by the makers of the box. I also discovered that there is some kind of web administrator interface there, but I never found whether my box has it or how to access it. Basically, there is very little information about this STB or Microsoft TV in general out there (mostly because they're new to the market it seems).

Since it seems XBOX 360 also uses the Microsoft TV APIs to act as the media center, I tried to follow similar directions with my STB as were outlined on several XBOX forums. Of course, all of them required me to first set up the channel in the XBOX (through FTPing a config file and then applying it... steps that I can't do with the STB).

So, I am writing to ask if anyone has any knowledge of Microsoft TV or maybe this STB, or maybe experience with Club Internet IPTV and 3rd party streams to their STBs. I would really love to be able to play the videos on my computer (and DVDs) on my STB and not have to sit in front of my computer. Perhaps an easier way to do this would be to buy cables and just connect my TV to the computer, but it's a Lenovo notebook, and it only has an Analog Monitor out port, not even an S-video out :(

In any case, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance.
Max

Hello

I have been looking for something exactly the same as what you are looking for.

I use Kreatel STB as well.

I managed to get the UDP://IP:port to show directly in Windows Media Player using a streaming plugin "Elecard AVC Streaming PlugIn for WMP".

Now i am trying to use a software called Tversity to work as the media sharing hub to XBOX 360 instead of WMP.

The problem i am facing now is that Tversity cant diagnose a URI format used by Elecard plugin hence it is like this "elecard://ip:port/udp"

I will contact Tversity support or post a topinc in the Tversity form for that issue.

If i find any thing else i will feed you back , and please if you find a work around let me know.

Question - why do you need that Elecard plugin? I was always planning to use VLC and not WMP. Maybe if you try streaming to the IP and Port that you found through Elecard plugin from VLC, you will get TVersity to work, too? I am sure VLC can accept TVersity's input and redirect it to the STB. What is your port, BTW? I only found 8080?
