computer locking up

i have always use vlc and never had a problem. i just built a new computer and now when i use vlc it locks my computer up or does a physical dump....how do i get around this?

Update your drivers. (videocard, chipset, soundcard)

my drivers are all up to date. im still getting the same problem.....anything else i could try out....i cant think of anything else that coudl be doing this. i run some high end games and have no problems. to me it sounds like it is the program running with the hardware, but i could be wrong. i did see in someones post that there is a problem with vlc and dual core. if anyone has any ideas please let me know im just trying to get ot the bottem of this.

Software should never be able to crash OS, bad drivers can (if you get blue screen, you can check the .dll or .exe which crashed). You can also try to reset VLC settings.

yea i have uninstalled and reinstalled but i get no change. i have the most recent drivers for my video card. i could be way off here but i did see something about buffering on the video or buffing interenal. im at work so i cant look at the settings......is no one else having this prob. i dont have any other problems with games, or applications killing my computer.

delete the preferences & cache (start > programes > vlc > quick settings)

I get the BSOD when playing certain movies.
Stop Error 0x0000008E(0xC0000005, 0x042E0230,0xF30F7CAC, 0x00000000)
