no suitable access module for udp stream

I´m trying to watch an udp stream through a network in the house. this works fine for pc but not on my powerbook G4 with vlc 0.8.6c. Anybody having the same problem or knows what:

access_udp: cannot open socket
main: no suitable access module for `udp://233.34.28.5:1001'

means? thanks

the local area network that streams is located in a hostel in moscow. the streaming works on pc.

Sorry for the translation.

The program you can download there is called NoMcast4Ras.exe The network admin told me it´s not necessary to install it, although he won't give me any further info what the application does.
He says he can't help me as he has no experience with macs.

It seems the problem that this application solves on a windows machine is being able to watch tv and being online simultaniously.

Unfortunately on my mac, i can't connect to the stream at all.

I hope with this info and the error log someone with a little deeper knowledge knows what's going on here ;)

as far as i've understood multicasting is done by the server ? i'm just trying to connect to that cast. maybe i've misunderstood something here though. The udp-adress is the right one, it´s from the site here and the adresses work on pc. :?

i do have the same issue using my Macbook pro with leopard

i have a very simple setup, my MAC is connected to a streaming server,
the streams exist, and i can view them using any kind of STB and also using my PC

it's not the case when using my MAC, however my MAC does view the streams if they are Unicast, or using the HTTP

That's probably because these ports are reserved by system. as far as I know you can't launch VLC using sudo. so try following:
Go to System Prefrences > Sharing > check Remote Login (we turn on ssh)
Then in Terminal
sudo ssh -f username@localhost -L31337:localhost:1001 -N
type the password
Then in VLC you put 31337 instead of 1001(or what was it?) - udp://@233.34.28.1:31337

Hello, I think i have the same problem. Iam using the latest version of Vlc. In windows XP on the same computer vlc playing iptv properly.

I can launch vlc using sudo. Just type in the terminal sudo /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC.

I just spent a lot of time troubleshooting this issue. Finally found that I had another Network Interface that VLC was trying to use that was enabled but was not allowed to get to the outside network. I Checked my routing table and found that there were 2 entries for routing multicast traffic (run a "netstat -r" in most OSes to see your routing tables).

This shows that there is only one default route going out interface with an IP address of 198.166.41.12, but there are still 2 entries in the Routing Table for all Multicast traffic. It is trying to request/send the multicast traffic out interface with 10.0.0.1 which goes no where. Disabling this interface allows VLC to work again.
