Streaming with vlc and Ubuntu

Postby tmot » 11 Sep 2007 09:30

Hi!
I'm using Ubuntu 6.04 Server edition with "ubuntu-desktop" and vlc version 0.8.6a. I'm having a problem with streaming a webcam outside my local network. Streaming inside my home network is no problem at all.

I have tried the following settings on a WinXP machine, with no problems at all. But the WinXP has to go and be replaced with Ubuntu, the only obsticle is that I have to get my webcam up and running. I have opened the right ports in Firestarter and in my router.

My settings in VLC are:
File -> Open capture unit->

/dev/video
/dev/dsp
Norm=Automatic

Checked "Stream/Save" and clicked "Settings..."

"Play Locale" checked
"HTTP" checked, no ip only port 8081
"ASF" checked
"Videocodec" checked and set to DIV2, bitrate=384, scale =1
"Select alla elementary streams" checked
"Time to live" set to 1-255
Clicked "OK"

Set "Cached" to 600
Clicked "OK"

The streaming starts and works perfect within my local network. But when I'm outside my home network I get the error message "PTS out of range". My question is, have you had the same problem? Do you have any tip for me?

Thanks in advance!
/Mattias
