I want to automatically direct the open skin dialog to the VLC directory.
On Windows VLC stores it's installation path in the registry. But where is it stored on *nix and on Mac OS X?

Re: VLC Skin Editor // Current release: 0.3.0b

Postby 3breadt » 01 Sep 2007 14:49

Version 0.3.0b released, with working links this time =)
Next come the preview code and other difficult tasks, but the main part has been done so far. I'm quite optimistic regarding the future development of the Skin Editor.

Any news regarding hosting?

next release will include an improved vlt importing, as it has a little bug in 0.3.5b
also items will be movable with the mouse, selected items will be displayed with a red border
and maybe also that items can be moved in the tree hierarchy

wow I never knew that you were a developer too... congratulations for the program. perhaps sites like download.com or softpedia may help you with the hosting if you cant use the video LAN servers.

Version 0.4.5a released. This fixes several bugs with XML parsing/generating and also with font rendering. Text variables are now interpreted in the preview.

I started writing a little usage guide for the skin designer.
You can find it in the wiki at User:Altglass/Skin-Designer_Tutorial.

Version 0.5 released today, hat more free time than I thought =)
Please test it, it's already quite usable in my opinion. Tell about all bugs you encounter and feel free to suggest new features.

I'm finally going to start testing this program now that I've go some time. A few questions aLtgLasS:

(1) can I use my Paint.NET program and export all of the PNG files to use in this program so that I can apply functionality to each of the individual layers? I already have a few skin designed but nothing doing yet for a skin that functions.

(2) I've downloaded the development version but where's the executable? How do I run the program? :? Sorry if CloudStalker seems a little slow today, tomorrow, everyday. :(

1. you can use any program you like to do the pngs.
2. If you have Java SE JRE 6 installed properly then just doubleclick on VLCSkinEditor.jar
JAR-files are kinda the exes of Java. If doubleclicking won't open it, try doing it via a commandline

Code: Select all

java -jar VLCSkinEditor.jar
.

Tried it and I'm still having problems. I guess I'll just wait til there's an exe version. ? I got it working before but that was a long time ago, in the days when you couldn't even create skins with it.

Ok, I uploaded a version with an exe in it.
I really need some testers to find bugs. One person has already been so kind to do some testing and to report bugs to me, which helped a lot, but one is not enough :) I appreciate your help.
