View Dreambox stream on laptop and forward audio stream to S

Postby Isaksson » 19 Aug 2007 22:41

My laptop currently works as a TV in my kitchen. It is a standard installation with my Dreambox 7000 streaming audio and video to the VLC/active-X browser add-on. It works excellent!

I now would like to wirelessly “forward” the same audio-stream from my laptop to my LAN as an asx, mp3, pls, m3u or wma stream. Is that possible? If so, my SONOS-system will be able to pick it up and distribute it to in-ceiling speakers in the whole house. Below you find examples of streams that are compatible with the SONOS system:

The nice thing with an installation like this is that you can walk around in your house and listen to a TV-program without having to turn up the volume to much. I have tried a setup with a RCA-cable from the line out of my laptop to the line in of my SONOS. Fantastic! The twist is to find a solution where I can forward the sound wirelessly and thereby get rid of the RCA-cable.

I would very much appreciate a solution!

Best regards

Hi Isaksson,

It sounds as though we are running similar set ups with regard to Dreambox. I too use a laptop as wireless TV, if you will. I love it, Dreambox rocks!

I have a quick question for you though... Do you ever have a problem with the VLC player craching? I do. It seems to crash all the time, with no rhyme or reason. My laptop is a Mac. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I thought I would get your thoughts.

I am running Max OS X (10.4.10) and the most recent VLC Player for Mac (0.8.6c).

Also, do you know if it is possible, through the VLC Player to record the stream on to the laptop? I am not talking about the internal HD, but rather recording the stream I receive on my laptop.

Thanks in advance!
Cam Wilson
