MPEG using a pipe or FIFO

Postby kbruck » 04 Dec 2003 16:51

I have a mpeg encoder card that is not supported under "video for linux". The card does produce valid mpeg1 data streams, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to take these streams and send them to VLC. Maybe using a FIFO or a PIPE.

My system is running RH linux by the way.

thanks!

Simply try

Code: Select all

cat /dev/video | vlc -

So how would I use this command line to stream data? Meaning, what exactly would I include on the command line?

thanks.
