dock window and playlist when using wxwidgets skin

Postby citizenkeys » 23 Jul 2007 05:38

It would be very nice to be able to dock the main window, the playlist, and any video window to each other and/or the corner of the screen, a'la the way winamp handles this.

In Winamp, when the main window is within (say) 10 pixels of the corner of the screen, winamp goes ahead and docks itself perfectly to the corner of the screen in a very "clean" and simple way. In Winamp, the same feature applies when moving the playlist/video window near the main "control" window.

Why do I need to use a separate/specific skin with VLC to get this basic feature?

I agree, this would be nice. Oh and by the way, I requested this too. :)

Because not all skins use anchors, which define where the points of the window are that can dock to another anchor or to a screen edge. This feature already exists in VLC, just some skins don't use it.

ok, but is it too much to ask that the wxwidgets skin use it?

wxwidgets is not a skin?! It's a normal window and behaves like all other application's windows. If it doesn't stick to your screen edges its not a problem of vlc but of your OS.

okay then, the next practical question would be....

why is the anchoring feature in the "skin" code instead of in some sort of general interface code?

it would seem that anchoring would be something that ALL skins could take advantage of, and therefore be in some general interface code instead of left up to skin designers.

Hello,

I'm using VLC player 0.9.4 on Windows XP.
And I'd like to have a docked playlist.

Is there any suitable skin for me?
Which skin should I look at?
Or how do I know which skin support docking?

P.S. I'm also a Linux user. What skin should I use on Ubuntu 8.10 so I can dock my playlist?

I think he/she meant skins2 interface. Not particular skin.

How do I dock the playlist window when using the default skin in Windows? I have looked through all the options and I find it kind of irritating that it a) doesn't just do it automatically and b) there is no simple option to enable it. Any help is appreciated.
