Streaming to STB - pace dsl 4000

Postby GQ » 19 Dec 2003 15:52

I'm looking for a way to stream content to a pace dsl4000 stb. I know
that vls doesnt have any rtsp support right now so thats not an option.
I'm wondering if anybody has done this or has any suggestions on how to
do it. I'm not sure how to direct the stb to join a specific multicast stream
using a url. It would be great to get the stb to open up a port to listen on
and then use VLC to stream MPEG-2 ts content to it, I'm just unsure that
it can do that.

Streaming to STB - pace dsl 4000

Postby pee » 15 Mar 2004 19:23

I think that STB (dsl4000) works with VOD (simply a http server).
But to works this STB needs first to load his OS from a tftp server (or other --> see configuration).
I also try it but for this moment, I don't have any OS image file to load with my DSL4000.
I don't say if it's the right way to works with this kind of STB.

I succeeded to stream on a Pace DSL 4000 but with VLS
the STB is able of RTSP urls.
I started the VLS with
vls -d udp:multicast-address:port file:file-to-stream.mpg -ttl 2 -loop

then on the STB in the javascript code you must use the mediactrl object:

The MediaCtrl object is a specific Javascript object of the Pace set-top-box . It allows to controls the video stream as it is implemented with RTSP controls. But the streaming is done on multicast and the server does not support the RTSP. Hopefully, the MediaCtrl also supports IGMP. The three mains functionalities are load, unload and play:
- load: It sends a IGMP join request to a multicast group. The group is specified by the multicast address.
- play: Starts the decoding of the MPEG-2 stream.
- unload: Stops the decoding of the MPEG stream and send a request leave to the multicast group.

if you need more info give your mail in your PM, I made a whole project about it, I ld give you the detailed project if you want.

PACE DSL4000, XP machine, stuck at PACE error message

Postby dk_man » 01 Jan 2006 19:56

Hi folks,

I am trying to stream a DVD from my windows XP machine to my PACE DSL 4000. I don't know how to get past the message that is displayed from the PACE box:

RTSP BM did not recognise the server version

Below are the details of my attempt.

The physical connections are (SaskTel Max internet and Video over IP):
*Telephone line to the Westell WireSpeed Modem (A90 - 200013 - 04)
*From the Modem to a SMC EZ Switch 10/100 105DT, connected to port 5 of the Switch
*From the Switch to the PACE DSL 4000 (DSL4000NT32), connected to port 2 on the Switch
*From the Switch to the windows XP machine, connected to port 4 on the Switch

Normally, we surf the web on the XP machine, and watch TV through the PACE DSL 4000.

I want to send video and audio to the PACE DSL 4000 from the XP machine.

I am using VideoLan VLC 0.8.4a. I start vlc from the command prompt with:

vlc --ttl 12 -vvv --color -I telnet --telnet-port 4212 --telnet-password admin --extraintf logger --verbose 2 --rtsp-host 64.110.abc.efg:5554 --logfile vlc_log.html --logmode html

Then, I used PuTTY to open a telnet window:
I.e., telnet 64.110.abc.efg 5554

Here is the output from my telnet session:

Password:

Welcome, Master
> new Test vod enabled

> setup Test input dvdsimple://D:

Once I have typed those commands, I bring up the WWW interface on the PACE DSL 4000 (by using the WWW. button on the remote).

I press the WWW. button again to bring up the "Go To" button. I have a keyboard and a mouse attached, so I click on the little life-preserver, and get the URL window. I clear out the http://www. entry and enter:

rtsp://64.110.abc.efg:5554/Test

The box displays a black screen with a picture of a present, and then gives the message:

RTSP MB Did not recognise the server version

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Thanks, David.
