Image bug in VLC on old laptop.

Postby vorob » 27 Jun 2007 19:32

Hello everybody. I’ve got a very strange issue in VLC on my old laptop. My config is:

P3-450Mhz (Core Coppermine), 192Mb so dimm 144-PIN / 100 MHz, Trident Cyber 9525 - AGP 2x / 2Mb w/o acceleration

To watch mpeg4 films I use GOM but some time it is laggy, so my friend recommended to try VLC as one of the fastest players, especially for old PC.

I’ve got some strange picture defect: whole picture is like under sepia filter and some parts of image are red. Nothing similar is under GOM. To show you more correctly I’ve made some video file. At first I turn on VLC and then, the same video, under GOM.

and, if you want full size http://rapidshare.com/files/39682313/VLCBug.avi

You know, I have had similar thing before, on my previous windows xp installation. I’ve been using Light Alloy + Ffdshow 2004. I don’t remember fully but I thing problem was in YV12 output, I just turn it off in ffdshow and all was ok. But! I’m not sure.

Now I don’t use ffdshow or any codec packs, I prefer players which already include codec’s. I didn’t find any similar option in VLC so I ask you here, how to fix up my issue.

-----------------------------------

And one thing more. In windows 98 on this machine I also use VLC, and there I don’t have any image bugs, but I here noise in sound, it sounds like my speakers are at there maximum and making noise like SHHHHHHhhhhh… nothing similar under win xp.

P.S. Sorry for my grammar, I’m Russian :)

SMP4 is not supported by VLC.

The audio issue may be that your audio card does not support the float32 option. Try shutting this off.

1. The sample you provided is in SMP4 format. VLC does NOT support this.

2. Preferences, Audio, Output modules, DirectX "Use Float32 output"

Sample i provided was captured by my video camera, i'm just showing you what i see on my laptop screen, you don't need to check my video file, you must watch video, laptop in there. And video wich is playing on monitor of my laptop, at first with bad colours under VLC and then in GOM is in MPEG4 - XviD.

Color or banding issues are generally a video memory issue. Try reducing the resolution and / or color depth of your video card.

BTW What's GOM? At first I thought it was a typo for OGM/OGG

It's a freeware Korean (if i remember correctly) all-in-one media player. Had a link to the english language page for it, but it seems i have misplced it :P *googles it* ->

Code: Select all
