xvid and PII-350 as client

hi everybody..

I have a amd 1.2 gig as server and a PII-350 as client.

I want to be able to play xvid on the PII-350. I try it on windows 98 and vlc 0.7.2. on some xvid file the video play correctly but on other file the image isn't smooth. i would likt to know if it's possible to transcode xvid file to a faster codec to be able to play it on my pii-350.

If i installl linux on it instead of windows shold i get a better result ?
