.mkv/ x264 playback settings?

Postby fatcat » 23 Jun 2007 13:52

are there any settings which i need to enable/ disable to obtain best results.

I'm running a fairly powerful processor E6600 and am looking at using vlc to the max for x264 playback.

any advice appreciated.

i have searched

just to confirm that i am looking at what i think is the settings you refer:-

settings>preferences>video codecs>x264>tick box to skip loop filter>save

btw theres an awful lot of other settings under the x264 codec i.e. pure interlaced etc

oohh was using 0.86c but just tried the 0.90 (24/6 nightly build) noticed a big improvement on playback - now much smoother :)

Similar problem for me, with .mkv file I am getting an error message that reads: "main warning: late picture skipped (2872459)
ffmpeg error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?)."

My processor is Intel Pent III CPU 1200 MGH, 1 GB RAM. Choosing 'skip loop filter' does not improve the situation, which is great audio but no picture at all. I am a new user to VCL so any advice appreciated, but needs to be spelled out for me. For example if I need to adjust 'post processing' I don't know how to do that. Thanks.
