sorry for the red lettering... anyway, one thing I hate about linux is that you have to compile everything... to install the drivers for my ethernet modem, I have to compile the drivers
I think I am better off asking somebody for it....

a deb package just for vlc is worthless, this is not as easy as in windows; because there are many dependencies. see http://packages.debian.org/stable/graphics/vlc to see how many dependencies you actually need. you
and what about an RPM package too? these are required because one may be able to distribute them in a cd to others. all the dependencies can be downloaded...
well... I guess not. then what can I use? I want a complete media player in a deb package....
PS atleast an mp3 player ?
or is there a package where all the extra ubuntu gstreamer codecs are available?

if you have a fast net connection, you can download the ubuntu dvd's, then use them as local repositories using apt-cdrom. but while you are at it, better download the debian dvd.
