Playing video on TV (with or without MythTV)

Postby kostya » 12 Nov 2006 20:24

I am looking for a way to play WMV videos streamed from Internet using VLC and or VLC wih MythTV. Basically, I want to be able to view about 10 streams available on the Internet through computer on TV.

I will need to be able to change streams through remote control without having to type full URL.

I tried to use MythTV, and although it has a lot of functionality for recording and playing captured content, it lacks ability to stream and record internet feeds.

I would think there should be a simple way to configure VLC (maybe with skin) to allow for TV-style nagivation and control.

I can use both Windows and Linux to run any software as long as I can make it work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

gbpvr has a good interface, handles remote commends, etc.

A Plugin for gbpvr is available that uses VLC to receive, transcode, display and save internet streams.
