Skin properties

Postby termant » 05 May 2007 16:48

I propose:
  • 1. Spectrum Analyzer/Oscilliscope visualization
  • 2. Boolean expression: Stream type [isStereo or isMono]
  • 3. Balance alias Left-Right or multichannel
  • 4. Text variable formatter eg $T default format H:MM:SS to +MM:SS (where +MM is equal to HH*60+MM)

1) Normal VLC visualizations can be used for this. They open in their own video window (or in the Video control of the skin, if their is one), but it is planned to embed them in the skin like the winamp little visualization.

2 - 3) No problem to add this to the skin interface, if VLC core provides an easy access to such information (I don't know whether it's the case). Note however that multichannel audio streams will neither be mono nor stereo.

4) Hmm, why not. Is it really so useful?

Good!

1)Where can I find doc of VLC visualizations?

2-3) Two channels is fine, thanks.

4) Yes it is. ;-)

When possibly these features are usable?

Oops... I meant that it is NOT planned, sorry.

1) I don't think there is any doc. You can find the available visualizations in the popup menu, when playing an audio file.

4) OK. An example would be interesting :-)

Number 4 should be rather fast to do. For 2 and 3, it depends whether the core is able to do that. If not, it may take very long; if yes, it shouldn't be too much work...
I can't give you a date :)

1. So visualizations are "hard"-coded to VLC at the moment? Is there API for visualizations?
4. If I am right, Winamp 5 shows the elapsed time at the format MMM:SS, so there is not hour displayed at all. I am making Classic Winamp Look-skin and I have this time format problem, because H:MM:SS can't fit... :-/

EDIT

I investigated that Winamp claim and succeeded to find shot of it. The following skin is modern, but the time-format is the same than it is in classic skin.

I don't understand what you mean. Visualizations are VLC modules, and the act like a video (i.e. they open in their own video window, or in the Video control of a skin if there is one).

Are you aware that VLC is "more or less" able to display classic winamp skins (i.e. winamp2 skins in wsz format)? I say "more or less", because it has limitations... corresponding to your feature requests (among a few other things) :-)
