Turn off the screen during play back?

Postby carbon » 29 Apr 2007 21:00

I want to install VLC to turn off the screen that are not showing the movie.
How do I do that?

Example: I use a iMac that I have conected to my LCD-TV that are in the same room. I want to use VLC on my iMac to show movies on my TV, but not on the iMac and TV at the same time. I want the screen om my iMac to be black during play back with VLC. I have read on the internet that this is possible with VLC. But how?

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

If you're using an extended desktop instead of a clone then you should be able to drag the interface more then half way across to the second monitor/TV until you see a moving image then double-click for fullscreen. It should look something like this:

Drag interface more then halfway across:

Double-click for fullscreen:

This didn´t work... But the example you gave is not exactlly what I wanna do. In VLC there is a option were you can choose "Black screens when playing fullscreen" (translated from swedish version). But when I choose that option I doesn´t get any black screen. Either on the TV or på iMac.

Let me show you the option...

Why doen´t this work for me? Anyone get this working and have any tip?

try turning off the mac screen; it also saves power

On Linux, blindly use VLC, SMPlayer, Kaffeine, GXine, Totem and MPlayer

It's a little difficult for me to help you since I use window version of VLC and not he Mac version. The preferences are set up differently then the Windows version so someone who has that OS will probably be able to help you, sorry.
