Video Files being played in black and white

Postby Brak » 20 Jul 2004 19:42

At first i thought that the file which i was trying to play was bad but when i played another file which i knew is in color it too was in black and white. So how i correct this problem?

Maybe you have greyscale video output enabled?

Launch VLC using the WxWindows interface.

Open Settings -- Preferences

Check the Advanced Options box.

In the frame, open General Settings -- Video.

In the right-hand frame you will have to scroll down, but right below "Zoom Video" is a checkbox for grayscale -- make sure it is cleared , then select Save.

The box for grayscale is cleared/un-checked and the colors still seem to be off. Maybe i should mention this but a few days ago my BS player was playing files in black and white too but i fooled around a little bit and the colors were turned back on. Could something else be wrong?

I figured it out. The problem was not with VLC but somewhere else. Thanks markfm for your help.

I have the exact same problem, but I think its because my ATI card crashed, but doesn't make any sense because everything but video is running fine (aka games vids, etc)! help ~_~

I won't be a little BITCH like the guy who figured it out and didn't post it. I spent some time and figured out why videos were coming black and white.

go to preferences, uncheck "overlay video output". stop your movie, and start it back again, of course when playing video cd's.

Wow i killed the stereotype and didn't be the overly arrogant computer prick who knows everything and i'm actually giving some feedback,

god forbid anyone will thank me for this. they will fix their players with my advice though that's for sure.

you're welcome in advance you bastards.

Overlay is a very essential part of your video processing system. If you need to disable it, then something in your directx or videocard drivers is incorrectly reporting it's capabilities to VLC.
