Video and Odd, Distant-Sounding Dialogue, .avi files

Postby MoneyAddyct » 29 Apr 2007 08:10

I have a few .avi files that Videolan doesn't play correctly. The video plays fine, so does any music. However, the dialogue is either non-existent, or sounds very-distant, or for-lack-of-a-better-word sounds hollow. Is this a problem with Videolan or a problem with the avi files themselves? Anything I can do? Thanks.

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

It possible your sound card and VLC are set to 5.1 output but they're running on stereo speakers. Go to: Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > "Audio" tab > Advanced. Set the Speaker Setup to "Desktop Stereo Speakers" and retry VLC media player.

Fixed!

That worked! Sweet! How come that only happens for certain avi files? I would think that if it was a problem with my audio settings all along, then every avi file should have played that way. For the avi files that didn't have that problem should I revert the setting back to 5.1? Thanks!!
