Don't forget to temporarily disabling the monitor shutdown too.

Which version of VLC do you use ?
0.7.2 should already do that correctly.

VLC 0.7.2 definitely doesn't disable the screensaver under Windows XP.

I'm using 0.8.1 (win), and the screensaver definitely gives me trouble while playing movies... The monitor doesn't go off however. At least have it automatically disable the screensaver when in fullscreen, please?

I have no problems with the screen saver, but I use a dual monitor setup with the controls and video detached, as long as the video is the selected item the screen saver will not kick in......hope that make sense.....

Same problem

Postby Guest » 04 Dec 2004 06:31

I had vlc 0.8.0 and the screensaver wasnt kicking in. Then I installed 0.8.1 and it started kicking in without me changing anything in the settings.

So i guess its a small bug that will be fixed in a next release.

xweiner

screensaver appears in vlc-0.8.1 but in vlc-0.7.2. not

Postby xweiner » 08 Dec 2004 19:18

I am using Win XP SP 2 (Professional).
Why is this problem in new version? Is that possibly becaouse in vlc-0.7.2. is in Settings/Preferences/Video-On screen display but in 0.8.1. is not this checkbox?

Please help me or correct it!!! I am still using rather older version.

Lol That was my question the screensaver problem with 0.8.1 .

I'm running VLC 0.8.1 on W2K SP4 and the screensaver definitely gives me trouble while playing movies on full screen and even in window and even with a dual view.
And I'had no problem with previous VLC 0.7.2 with the screensaver while playing movies.

Sure you will resolve this problem soon.
:arrow: And THX to all the VLC team for this great program.

I've been having the same problem. Here's my solution - I DLed a small program called Tarsier which is a screen saver toggle. It places a small + icon in the systray; clicking on the icon changes it to a - and turns off the screen saver. Problem solved.

:D

Having the same issue with VLC under Windows XP SP2, I hope this will be fixed soon. I've had a temporarly switch to a different video player, as having to get up every 10 minutes to move the mouse is just too annoying.

But would also just like to say that this is some fantastic software and too keep up the good work.

This should be handled in the current VLC nightly builds for Windows, which include the code:
/* Catch the screensaver and the monitor turn-off */
if( message == WM_SYSCOMMAND &&
( wParam == SC_SCREENSAVE || wParam == SC_MONITORPOWER ) )
{
return 0; /* this stops them from happening */
}

Not sure when it was implemented -- the last change to the applicable file was on 20 Dec.

Same Problem

Under Windows XP Video Lan 7.2.0 disabled the screensaver. When I upgraded to 8.1.0 the screensaver comes on. I looked for a setting, but had no luck. I downgraded for a while, but now I just use no screensaver with a monitor off time of 10 minutes.

Please try a current build, as can be found at:
http://vthr.via.ecp.fr/~videolan/build/win32/

Download the last file in the list.

Unzip the package into the directory where you have 0.8.1 installed -- it should be c:\program files\videolan\vlc. This will overwrite the 0.8.1 files with the very latest vlc files. (answer Yes if WinZip or whatever program you use asks if it's OK to overwrite files and directories.)

The current code base, as I mentioned previously, looks like it disables (actually, traps) screen savers.

If you have problems using the current nightly build (the software that I told you how to download above), please post a message.

Thanks.
