second taskbar-item appears after running in fullscreen-mode

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

second taskbar-item appears after running in fullscreen-mode

Postby Dandruff » 10 Jul 2004 18:19

yes -> play a video -> change to fullscreen -> return to normal window -> now a item called "VLC (hardware YUV overlay DirectX output)" appears at my taskbar

would be nice if that could be fixed.

running matrox p650 here.

This is because in reality there are 2 windows. though the second one (the video one) is embedded in the interface. It is a strange problem which we know of. Not sure if it CAN be fixed.

This "problem" is useful if you use a dual output: when I use VLC in full screen on my TV and the second thingie appears in the task bar, I press on the first one and the controls appear in a window in front of the picture. I can then move it to my monitor and control the movie playback.

If you find how this occurs, it would be good to give the option to enable it, as there's no other way (yet) to efficiently control playback. It would be great to have a bar that shows up on mouse movement like in Zoom Player.

By the way, I can't get the shortcut keys to work...

it would be good to give the option to enable it
it's already there: preferences -> module -> interface -> wxwindows -> embed video in interface

just disable it!

the appearing of this second taskbar-item is a bug.

This has just been fixed so you'll be able to use the embedded mode again when 0.8.1 comes out.

thank you! but it's not fixed 100%, because you see the second item in fullscreen-mode when bringing the taskbar to the front (with CTRL+ESC). going back to window-mode and the item diappears. thats fine. so it's almost perfect 8)

I realise that this is an old post so I am unsure whether this will ever get read. However, it appears that with your latest release [0.8.6f], this problem has returned.
I only installed the update as I wanted to take a screen capture of a file WMPlayer10 couldn't play and the version of VLC player that I had [0.8.1] didn't have that ability.
I have now uninstalled the upgrade and reinstalled old faithful [ie. v 0.8.1] as it doesn't have this problem at all.
I have been using VLC Player to view MOV files [Quicktime] as it is much faster to start than Quicktime is [at least on a PC].
BTW; the old version has written in the about section; "(wxWindows interface)"; whereas the new version has, "(wxWidgets interface)". I don't know whether is is of any relevence.............
I am on a Win XP Pro platform.
Cheers
