Delete files locally

Postby MassMan » 20 Mar 2007 03:04

Is there a way to not only delete files from playlist, but from harddrive as well?
It can get really tedious to look up the files' location in vlc, find the files in windows and then delete. Would be much easier if I could just press 1 shortcut and it would be deleted.

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

I don’t know about deleting a file on your hard drive though VLC, but as for looking up the location of files stored on your computer, this should be much easier in VLC .0.9.0.

It will have its own media library which will load your media files automatically upon startup. It will also have an excellent search tool for easily locating music and or videos stored within the library (song title, name of artist, even the name of the folder it was taken from).

Is this satisfactory?

Well... No :)

Odds are that people will be using vlc media library to play files and if you can't delete files on hard drive from within the library people will still be forced to locate the files (again) in explorer if you want to delete them.

Well then, to add to this feature request, how about a “find target” for each file selected within a playlist? It already shows the file path and directory, so being able to find the target and delete a file would be a little easier. Good idea? Bad idea?

But you still have to admit that the "Media library" thing is pretty cool. :P

The closest feature I'm able to find in 2.0.1 is this:
  • Toggle out of fullscreen
  • Stop the playing of the file
  • Show playlist
  • Memorise the filename of the current item
  • Rightclick the current item
  • Click "Show Containing Folder"
  • Locate the file (which can be difficult if it's a large directory, since the file isn't selected by vlc)
  • Realise the filename you remembered from vlc playlist is the file's metadata title, not the actual filename
  • Tab back to vlc
  • Rightlick the item current item
  • Click "Information"
  • Memorise Location
  • Tab back to file explorer
  • Locate file (which can be difficult if it's a large directory, since the file isn't selected by vlc)
  • Delete
  • Tab back to vlc
  • Continue playlist
  • Close Error Window that pops up because you deleted the current item
Compared to something like IrfanView's one-click
  • Delete file and move to next in playlist/directory
Sorry for necro'ing.
Thanks for a great program =)
