A/52 (ac3) is supported by VLC. However your audio card may not be capable of 48k audio sampling.

its a sb audigy 4 pro, and the digital sample freq. is on 48k it can do 96k to and it set to digital w/ 5.1 output it's over spdif cable...now what?

also i changed the audio output module to win32 waveout it was directx, can i can get the audio from 5.1 now but the front main audio is lower and the background audio is louder, but if i select a52 over s/pdif i get no audio like before why is this? it over that kind of cable and nothing is wrong with the cable.

Now nothin :P (I have the same sound card). Since you have the SB Audigy 4, you could try some third party driver that work: kx audio drivers v3538

They seem to work better then Creative's own audio drivers, but if you don't think so, then you could always unistall them and reinstall you're old ones.

The S/PDIF issue was (according to other users) corrected in these drivers:

The audigy card has been a issue here for many users and finding drivers has been the problem. The only other chip set or card is the Realtek AC97 audio, of which older drivers has resolved the issue.

When using the older method of addressing the audio card doesn't resolve the issue, the problem is the drivers.

The only other issue that may create problems is overclocking the CPU or Video card which causes errors in timing.

neither are overclocked, how can i make the dvd iso just play 2 front 2 rear or just stereo my default instead of the 5.1?

You could disable the “Use S/PDIF when available” and while the DVD is playing, right-click on the video window and scroll down to “Audio device” and you could choose “2 Font 2 Rear” or “Stereo”.

If you did happen to install the drivers that I linked you to earlier, then by default (intentionally) the front and rear channels are swapped. Go to the “kx” console at the bottom of your system tray and then you have the option on the first tab to swap the front and rear channels, or even easier, swap the plugs on the back of your sound card for front and rear.

I hope this finally helps you out. :)

i didnt install the drivers, since they are beta & half supported on my card, the reason why i was asking to defaulty use the 2 frnt 2 rear or stereo is because i can change it manually like you mentioned, yes i know how to but this it for a htpc, and i cant set it manually like this every time you understand right that would be aggravating since i'am on my couch and not in from of my kb & mouse...there is no cfg or any other way to have it not use the 5.1 at all??

Really this is not a VLC issue as 99% of all cards work here. We try to accommodate everyone in these forums and help them get a working VLC even when there are hardware, firmware, operating system or other software issues. But when a user can't do or refuses suggestions there is nothing more we can do.
