Two questions - audio timing and virtual dub

Hi there,
I'm getting some audio problems with things being slightly out of sync - is there a simple way to adjust the timing of the audio forward and back as there is in virtual dub?

And if not, is there a reason why an mpeg ps file from videolan won't open in virtual dub?

If there is, what sort of output do I have to create from videolan than I can open in virtual dub?

1. ctrl k audio delay up and ctrl l audio delay down.

2. & 3. Assuming you have MPEG 2 support for virtualdub and are making the MPEG PS files correctly -- No!

These are the settings I'm using to save the file:
MPeg ps
video codec mp4v, bitrate 512,scale 0.5
audio codec mp3, bitrate 32 channels 1

But the file that's output won't open in mpeg2 version of virtual dub.

Do I neeed to change the settings?

To the best of my knowledge Virtualdub uses Direct Show codecs of which I have never had issues with. Try playing the file under WMP or MPC that also use the Direct Show codec.

Files created in my videolan can only be played in my videolan - which means I cannot further edit them.
Any other thoughts?

Learn your formats and containers.

1. MP4v and MP3 should not be placed in an MPEG PS container.

2. Yes! You can create files that will only play in VLC. This is a no brainier. But the object is to create files that are compatible with other systems. This takes a knowledge of what you are doing.

The wiki is just mindblowing for someone new to all this stuff.

And after 3 hours on separate nights I still cannot see how to simply achieve what I'm after.

A good, compressed version of a DVD file that can be opened in virtual dub (which can handle mpeg2 and avi). I can see that videolan doesn't output avi - so what container/content can I use to give me an mepg2 for virtual dub?

My MPEG 2 decoder does a real good job of playing all the MPEG files I through at it. So all that is necessary is to select MPEG PS (no audio or video options) and name the file anything.mpeg. Then I convert to the format of choice after editing. All this assumes that the source is MPEG 2 DVD.

can it convert from DVD to MPEG?
I really need a good converot and free as can be
I need it to very reliable because Im working with sensitive materials. BTW I found this site jemsite.com and this one thereeftank.com very interesting.
