Installing VLC on SUSE 9.3: E_no_instsrc_on_media

Postby Oele » 04 Mar 2007 16:53

Because i couldn't get VLC to work right under Debian (see viewtopic.php?t=33048), i decided to try it on SUSE 9.3.

So, i tried to follow the instructions at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-suse.html , but adding the Repository to YaST gives:

Unable to create installation source
from URL 'http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/9.3'.
Details:
ERROR(InstSrc:E_no_instsrc_on_media)

I suspect that this caused by the fact that there is no control.xml file on the server.

Any ideas?

Hmm.. I think you might be right; SuSE 9.3 does not support repo-dm repositories yet in YaST.

I'll try to create the correct media.1 and control files for Yast on 9.3, but this might take a while, as I'm on another half of the earth now than my developer environment.

For the time being, you can download the RPMs directly from
http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/9.3/i586
respective
http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/9.3/x86_64

You will need the of all libs the latest version (most likely without the debuginfo and -devel packages).

It might get a bit in a dependency resolution, as we can not use yast at this time. But unfortunately it seems you were the first to try the 9.3 RPMs.

Is there a specific reason you're still on 9.3 or is it just the lack of time to upgrade?

No need to hurry, at least i know now that it's not my fault ;)

Indeed, installing the RPMs by hand works, after resolving all the dependencies.

It's my hosting provider :)

Thanks a lot for replying!
