Windows Vista Ultimate (MSDN release) 32bit
GeForce 7300 GS w/ default Vista driver (GeForce 7300 GS Microsoft WDDM 7.15.10.9746)

Doesn't work with 0.8.6a by default, showing black flickering. Setting "YUV->RGB conversions" and DirectX as output filter does the trick. Hoewever, it does turn Aero Glass off.
Same with DirectX 3D (I suppose this is the default?).

Setting to Windows GDI does work fine including Aero.
OpenGL shows the video, but playback is choppy even in (small) windowed mode.

Oh, and 'Hi' from The Netherlands.

(Just because this might be of any use...)

Hello, this is my first post, so if I'm missing anything. SORRY!

Windows Vista Home Premium
101.41 Drivers
Nvidia Go 7600

With DirectX on and the YUV thingy off, Video works, but Aero is missing.
OpenGl and DirectX3D I get sound but no video with or without the conversion thing.

Oh yes, the video seems more blocky as well compared to Windows Media Player 11

Not working at all for me

Postby rdroske » 28 Mar 2007 04:24

Vista 32bit Business, Latest Updates and drivers.

In all scenarios I get sound no video trying with a simple mpeg 2 that plays OK in Windows Media Player.

Main reason I want to use this is for playing input from Firewire connected to cable STB, same effect there. Sound but black video.

Screen does change size to what it should be for given input.

Using 8.0.6a Tried all outputs (DirectX DirectX3D OpenGL Windows GDI)
with YUV>RGB off.

Also tried todays lates build but it was way worse and doesn't give ability to capture from my Firewire STB Tuner Device

Not important at all. You don't have to worry about that.

Keep that one !

Thanks for your great report.
You just have to be aware that 0.9.0 interface is not finished and very buggy. So, if you can use 0.8.6 without Aero, use 0.8.6 and 0.9.0, we are working on interface. Be sure to download new versions the sooner you can :D

Just a question. Do you have a screenshot of qt4 interface on Vista ?

Well as far as i can tell.

8.6a works once i change from the default output to DirectX (but turns of aero the conversion thing makes no diff for me) GDI is good but quality suffers a bit. & OpenGL is the best on my PC but sucks on my laptop (to choppy)

But due to the pathetic Nvidia driver support for the 8800GTX i can;t watch anything thats openGL for more than about a minute or the video driver crashes :s.

Anyways keep up the good work guys

Here is a nice pointer for the devs...
First off.. specs : P4 2.8, ATI 9800 PRO 128.. 1 gig ram, Vista ultimate
(both 0.8.6 and nightly Apr 10)

Having similar issues as stated countless of times above..
it seems that with DirectX3d (Which i would assume is the desired one), the picture looks crap and horrible colours are just spewing. BUT, when there is an overlay on the screen, say when you press pause (you get the pause icon top right) or any other icon (fast, subtitle bla bla) the picture looks fine!. The picture gets messed up the moment the icon disappears.
So if you keep on pressing a key that generates an overlay message, the video displayes fine.
Hopefully this is a step in the right direction, cause its quite a pain to have aero get disabled just to open a video.. GDI is rubish, OPENGL is sometimes choppy, plain directx is temperamental.
Maybe directx 10 doesnt like or requires some overlay rubish :)
A quick and dirty fix is to have a constant overlay somewhere in the picture (not a long term solution i know :) ).

Dell E1705 laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz
2 Gigs of Ram
Generic MS Nvidia go 7900 gs drivers (Installed with Vista)
Vista Ulimate 64-Bit (OEM Copy) cheaper* :) Final

I was having the same issues as lots of people with VLC. It worked, but the image was pixelated. I finally managed to get a perfect image, with no pixelation and running smoothly both in a window and full screen. Areo does turn off, but I dont care about Aero while watching a movie. As long as the picture is good.

General Video Settings
Enable Video
drop late frames
skip frames
overlay video output
disable screensaver

Output modules
DirectX video output

Directx video output
Use Hardware YUV->RGB Conversions
Use triple buffering for overlays

I believe everything is standard. All I had to do was turn on "Overlay video output".
