Newby - TS File won't play

I am getting sound and if I disable then enable the video it plays for about a tenth of a second then freezes.

MPEG TS is a container. What's inside the container?

If it is a h.264 format using interlaced video you very well may have problems. MBAFF is supported but PAFF is not.

It says AC3 H264 in the file name

If you look at Messages it will give reasons why VLC is having problems with the source. Most likely with this format is the use of interlaced video. PAFF interlacing is most commonly used by realtime hardware encoders and are being embraced by broadcasters.

Still not the start. Try opening Messages before selecting the file to play the video. But from the last messages it suggests a HD video that your machine is to slow to play.

So can I convert it to anything else - avi for example. I'm actually not bothered about quality. I've only learnt about HDTV by trying to get this file to play.

I would venture a guess from Messages that the source video is 1080i PAFF encoded. If this is true it won't make a difference if your machine is 6.4 GHz it still won't play.

Hi.

I am currently experimenting with transport stream files extracted from the Digihome PVR80 PVR freeview box. Although, through the help of other forum members, it has been possible to ProjectX the files, it hasn't been able to play the pure .trp transport stream files directly within VLC Player. It seems to do something, but without any display or sound. I am completely new to this area, and hence sorry if I am going over old ground, but can someone enlighten me as to the structure of the .trp file system, and how I can play it without any conversion.

MPC, CoreAVC and a fast machine is the only way I know of to do this as it is supposed to support both interlacing forms. FFDshow may also work but the higher the resolution and the slower the machine the less likely FFDshow will produce adequate results.
