Proprietary format, this is unlikely to happen.

Hi,

I actually use GOM player, and it opens perfectly .swf files, and also it support all the formats of VLC.

I actually use GOM on Windows , but I want to pass to Linux in the next future, and I'd like it will play .swf. This is maybe the only thing VLC lacks and make GOM better to files types support.

If GOM player do it, why VLC doesn't do it???

SWF files are not video files.
That's not the point. These are the points:

- SWF is a flash player supported multimedia format
- Technically, video players can support it if the developers want it (and GOM Player is the prove: it supports perfectly .swf files). You can try it: http://player.gomlab.com/eng/download/
- There are not many multimedial players that actually support it.
- Many people like to play .swf offline
- You can play .swf files on your web browser (Firefox can play .swf as well), but it's as comfortable as play a video in your web browser: not really comfortable.

So, you can simply say "I don't want to support it" , but swf is a technically a multimedia format, as any other video or audio format, and include it in a multimedial player is possible. "SWF files are not video files" is not an answer.
