VLC records mms stream in asf format - but as far as I can see it can't play it back - I have to use KM Player. I would prefer not to have to have another player installed; besides, I find VLC more "navigable".

If this is not possible, could VLC record mms in a format that it can play back?

PS - I believe that VLC can convert to a different format (forgive me if wrong, I am drowning in info) but I don't have time for that, I have to get clips uploaded to RSPB PDQ
