Embedded MKV cover and grid view in playlist mode

A video library wihtout the movie cover arts is not very functional. A clear visual clue is needed for browsing and embedding DVD cover arts into MKV files is a perfect solution. Yet Linux users can see those embedded MKV covers only in Gnome/Nautilus (whose memory usage gets ballooning at once).

I've read before that VLC's soon(!) going to show the embedded MKV covers in playlist mode and so free us from the Gnome/Nautilus dependency, but if in playlist mode it can also have a grid view (like iTunes) instead of the current list view, that would be great. Grid view of cover arts in playlist mode would make VLC the iTunes of video libraries without the bloat and be much appreciated.

In either case, I'm grateful for VLC.

If you install from the daily ppa (haven't tried the stable), VLC loads the embedded MKV cover arts in its library view. Just double click on the movie. Video starts to play and when you look back you see that it's thumbnailed.
