Speeding up network streams

Ability to speed up network streams without constant stuttering.

I haven't found any player that can do this except for Windows Media Player. I'm trying to do this on a Mac, though (Mplayer, Quicktime w/ Flip4Mac, etc. don't help either). I submitted this question on the forums, no answer was found. Thanks!

Details:
I'm trying to watch a lecture stream -- mms:// -- with 2x speed. After a few seconds of watching, though, the stream stops. Then it either keeps counting the time or it eventually starts up a few seconds ahead of where it stopped. This happens continuously, and the stream is unwatchable. I set the http-caching to increasingly higher numbers but this kept happening, just at longer intervals. E.g. 1000ms -> I had to wait a few seconds before it started playing, then it gave me a few seconds of no-hesitation playback but then the problem again. 10,000ms -> I had to wait 13s before it started playing, then it gave me 20s of no-hesitation playback but then the problem again. 60,000ms -> I had to wait 60s before it started playing, then it gave me 2min of no-hesitation playback but then the problem again. So according to these experiences I would have to crank the http cache up to 900,000ms then wait 900s (15min) in order to watch the 1-hour lecture at 2x speed with no stuttering, which is just unacceptable and unwatchable. This is the same on a PC and on any number of Macs my friends have tried this on.
