A balance control to pan the audio left or right would be a great feature!

This might come to 1.3 via mixer.

I second the urgency of this issue. There is a famous playalong series by Jamey Aebersold where the balance adjustment is used to render bass on the left channel, piano on the right, and drums on the two of them. Now VLC provides the very worthily feature to adjust the pace of audio records, without change of pitch - perfect to practice with playalong records! Would be, that is - if there was the possibility to seperately listen to each channel.
Okay, with my notebook I can (1) open my Realtek audio mixer, (2) press the speaker button, (3) open the level tab, (4) press the balance button, (5) adjust the left channel level, (6) adjust the right channel level, and (7) carefully reset the original settings when I'm done practicing. You see the point, don't you? It's simply annoying to fulfill this ritual each time I want to practice with those playalong records. So pretty please, I beg you to listen to all the good people here, and implement such a f*ing tiny balance controller in the next version. Thank you very much.

We purchased a VCD set of dual-language videos with English on the left track and Chinese on the right track. Having a stereo balance control, or at least a means to select which channel to play (left, right, or both) would be a great help.

I'll add that my application is to help my child learn Chinese during long airline flights, so we'd be using VLC on a mobile device. At the moment the only way I can see to make it work is to use one earbud. But we'd like to use our noise-cancelling headphones if possible.

What ever happened to this? To summarize: we to control the volume of each channel.

VLC has lots of other audio effects, so it's odd that something this basic was never included. Radios have had it since the 1970s...
