Convert/save : burning the subtitles

Postby swrt64 » 07 Apr 2011 17:02

My sources are TS files, recorded from DVB-T ( Terrestrial French TV) in SD or HD. VLC reads perfectly these files and the subtitles.

However, I would like to compress the video for archiving, and burn the subtitles inside the video.

The Convert/Save function of VLC does not handle the DVB-T Subtitles.

This is my feature request for a future VLC release....

Sorry, but Convert does not include the subtitles in the destination file.

The problem can be that I usually have several Sub tracks, and I can't select the PID to use.

I have this exact experience as well. Burning in the subtitles does nothing except remove the subtitle PIDs from the file. The original file contains 4 different sets of DVB subtitles, but there is no way to select them.

The option --sout-transcode-soverlay does not appear to have any way of selecting the relevant subtitles.

Has anyone tried again with the last version ov VLC. I supposed it was able (finally!) to save TV subtitles as it shows also the DVB-S or T.140 option. But every attempts I've made to convert videos preserving the original subtitles has failed so far...
