Ubuntu One integration

A humble request, though I understand it isn't a small one, and probably best done as a plugin, not an essential part of the main branch.
I've been using Xubuntu for 4 years now and my favorite media player has always been VLC.

Recently, Canonical has started their Ubuntu One service which has a music store that integrates into media players I can't stand (Rhythmbox, Banshee).
So, my question is if the Ubuntu One music service can be implemented into VLC, and how that might be accomplished, or if someone has already started on this (please say it's so!).
If I had more programming experience, I'd be glad to help out with coding and whatnot, but the best I can do at the mo is beta testing, etc.

Canonical doesn't allow other media player to do it.

WTH?
Wow, I wasn't expecting that, you know "open source" and all that jazz...
I hope they've got a REAL good justification why.

Well, here, this is business, not open source.
