HTTP Stream Information

hello, it would be really nice if there would be a little info window when playing http streams (flash/divx) showing dl speed, how much percent of the video has already been loaded and maybe total length. as many http streams are quite slow I often pause playback (in apps like adobe flash player/divx web player/mplayer) and let them load for a while. in vlc I can't find any info on how much % of the file has already been downloaded.

I found something about that topic here:

but I don't quite get the correct command options working. could it be that those commands only work if you yourself stream something and not if you just play/download a stream?
