Could you just port over the iphone app using Palms new pdk? Shouldn't you be able to run it in the emulator without needing the device?

Some info on the PDK - http://developer.palm.com/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=20

Maybe someone could Ask SFR (in France) or Palm, I'm sure they would be glad to offer a device to get a port of VLC on WebOS.

To whom would I send a Plam Pre (Sprint) so that the VLC team can have access to hardware?

You could request a free unlocked Palm Pre2 at: devmarketing@palm.com

From Palm Developers blog: http://developer.palm.com/blog
"Creating Mojo apps for exciting, all-new HP smartphones

Press and users alike are excited about the all-new Veer and Pre 3. The great news is that these new smartphones come with webOS 2.x, which support apps created in Mojo. These phones provide a huge opportunity for you to update and deliver apps for all-new webOS devices people will want and love for a long time.

To help out, we are extending our free Pre 2 program to all qualified developers. Contact us at devmarketing@palm.com to see how you can receive the latest device to test your apps."

It is very easy to take for example the C source code available for the Nokia N900 make it run in the Pre/Pre2. The integration with the UI would be specific for WebOS but it is very easy and there are very good examples and help available in the homebrew community. http://www.webos-internals.org

I was planning on sending you my original sprint pre except with a verizon communication board installed. I feared that with the non-original hardware this would be too complicated and held off sending it.

Getting a Pre2 is a much better idea and I am POSITIVE HP will send you one for free. WebOS is a great OS. You should shoot them an email as julgui has suggested.

has there been any news on this front? I would love to see it happen, and it would probably run awesome on the new hardware coming out this summer!

This looks interesting, who'd be working on that port?
