Has there been any thought to support MXF Externally Refernced Essence? AS-02 currently under the amwa.org is a great place to start. Not sure if you support externally reference quicktime, if so this should be very similar.

Could you explain a bit more, please?

MXF as has quite a number of operational patterns. I am suggesting an OP1b implementation where a header file refers to essence files, so a media asset consists of several files. An AS-02 media asset can have a Header file say e:\clips\W121.mxf which inturn refers to essence files in a seperate directory e:\clips\media\W121_1.mxf (video essence), e:\clips\media\W121_2.mxf (audio essence), e:\clips\media\W121_3.mxf (audio essence), and e:\clips\media\W121_4.mxf (VBI essence). So if I want to play an AS-02 asset I drop the e:\clips\W121.mxf into your player, it parses the header and knows to play e:\clips\media\W121_1.mxf (video essence), e:\clips\media\W121_2.mxf (audio essence), e:\clips\media\W121_3.mxf (audio essence), and e:\clips\media\W121_4.mxf (VBI essence).

Has anyone pursued this?
If so please share. If not, can Jean-Baptiste or others provide a hint of which modules would need to be opened up?
It would be a two step process - load the 'program' file and then later open the external reference itself (for each stream, etc.).
I am interested in contributing if the effort can be segmented a little.
Surprised this has not been an issue for VLC users yet.
