I very much like the eclipse window - you type in part of a name of the preference, and in the preference tree it highlights only the paths that lead to those preferences, plus higlights the preferences in the main pane.

since vlc is getting more and more preferences, I'd like to have that search feature, too. At least in the "all settings" view, which displays a tree view in the left pane.

what do you think?
