Remember installation settings

Since VLC updates quite frequently (thanks for that btw), reinstalling requires to set certain installation settings almost every other day. For example I never want VLC to play audio files and have to de-select this for every install. Since I'm doing this on multiple machines it becomes quite annoying.

As a solution the installer could read the last installation settings and then work with these per default. If you think that would be a problem, e.g. because removing settings is recommending and people could choose to keep them for many version, you could still provide an option to go with the "recommended installation settings". That could even be the default. A single click to re-use the last settings would be good enough.

Thanks for considering this.

Almost impossible to transmit data like file types registration since nsis is very limited.

But for the installation options this should be possible (desktop icons and so on) - right?

I found this example script for saving and restoring a nsis component state. My knowledge about NSIS is very limited but from my point of view this seems to address exactly this problem:
