4K Video Compatibility?

Postby MR151 » 11 Jul 2010 04:15

Does the new VLC 1.1(and hopefully 1.1.1 soon for ATI Radeon owners) have 4K video capability for playback of video from extra high-def sources?

YouTube has recently begun accepting 4K video from the Red Cameras and similar equipment and I was wondering if this is something VLC can handle now or will be able to in the near future.

VLC should playback high resolution files.

Good. Thanks. I'll try playing back some 4K files when VLC 1.1.1 becomes available in 10 days or so.

I downloaded a couple of 4k videos from Youtube and they played just fine. Too bad the compression degraded a lot of their quality.
I played with no lags with an Intel Q6600, but probably it'd be skipping if the quality were better/less compressed. Let's hope 1.1.1 helps us with DXVA for ATi.

I don't think most DXVA compatible drivers handle 4K resolution.

Can VLC play back 4k footage, pixel for pixel? We plan to run a 4k film on to our 4k monitor (4096x2160 pixels). I'd like to confirm that VLC will not compress the footage. Thanks guys.

Ultra HD Video Compatibility?

Postby Ludrax » 09 Jun 2013 02:57

what about DVB sources? It's possible to use Stream all elementary streams(from previous topic), but how to join them?
the content is being encoded via MPEG4/H.264 and transmitted at 40Mb/s in four Quad HD streams
An' if ain't broke, then don't try to fix it...
