Reverse playback in VLC

To add reverse playback option in VLC: ability to play video backward. Preferably also at a controlable rates different then 1 (or -1).

I am not sure, if this request has any chance in near future, but I put it here, maybe it is easy for someone. I tried to look at the source code, but without a success so far. If anyone would like to take a look, I am willing to help.

This is currently just not possible in VLC's architecture. Though it might be worked on in the future, it is still a long long long time away.

It would be nice to be able to single step backwards.

Also finer slider controls for moving forward and backward. Like a second slider that can be used for smaller backward and forward moves.
