I know i have 2 sets of speakers running off my computer, and it's a bit of a hastle to change the output when i want to use a movie, then change it back.

Would it be hard to put a feature in VLC to choose the audio playback device and have it save the setting? Maybe different playback devices depending on the file type.

You can already select the device (at least under Win32).

The current audio device setting just lets you change what type of audio it outputs, not actual audio devices (I.E. Analog output vs SPIDIF on a different card)

Hi there,

On Mac OS, is there a way to select audio output device?

VLC seems to be hard-coded to always output to the built in iMac speakers. If VLC would comply with the system preferences setting, it would solve the problem. (In some software, like Garageband and Facetime, the user can override the system setting, but the system setting is default.)

I have an iMic audio switch to be able to switch with a mouse click between internal and external speakers. It takes audio in from USB and switches between two output channels. Currently with VLC, the iMic is useless and I have to unplug the audio cable on the back of the iMac everytime I want to switch. Which kinda defeats the purpose. :)

Thanks
