Showing Length for Transport Streams (.ts -files)

Hi,
For some reason VLC doesn't seem to be able to show length for Transport Stream files. It plays them without problems but any function that relays on time stamps doesn't work. For example SKIP doesn't work.
This is a real big source of irritation for me since my main use for VLC is playing Transport Stream videos (TV-recordings from my netbased recorder) with my HTPC (Mac Mini) and using the slider to skip commercial breaks or to find the correct spot without time stamps is a real pain. Using SKIP would be MUCH easier.
So is it possible to add ability for VLC to understand the length of Transport Stream files?
Other programs (atleast Mplayer) seem to understand it, but I'd prefer to use VLC.
Thanks,
-Katz
