Open player in paused mode.

I would like the ability to start VLC with a clip loaded but in paused mode so I can set every option, like going to full screen or adding subtitles, before starting to play the file.
Again, I second that.
I have very short clips (1 second), that I almost cannot view in VLC because the player opens the video output on the play button only, and closes the output window immediately at the end of file...
If the player would have an option to start in paused mode after the first frame, I could step through that couple of frames of these short clips.
