spc subtitles please

As it stands, the spc subtitle files extracted from (for example) oSEX (on the mac) are useless. There is no way to convert them into a standard, and cannot be played in VLC.
Though it would be great if they could.

Digging deeper results in:
Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to convert the .spc file into something that I can import into dvd studio pro 3?
Those files are useless. The timing information is not in them, and they're not text they're bitmap images.
Which indeed would make them quite useless.
Another site says:
If subtitles are .spc, I think you're right that they are completely useless. SPC streams seem to lack all timecode data, so no programs are able to use them (that I'm aware of).

Then in that case, can you suggest an application for specifically ripping subtitles from a dvd?
I would love to have a working alternative if this is impossible. =P
