Record what you hear

It would be nice if vlc supported a "record what you hear" option, I believe audacity supports this. If you aren't aware it basically records the noise that is coming out of your speakers.

I imagine that this isn't all that doable since it probably requires code for each platform... but I figure its worth asking.

You can already do that with DirectShow capture.
