Currently WMA, m4a and a few other formats are still not supported due to the limitation of Taglib library not supporting those formats but however there are free,open-source extensions which are available at soureforge such as this one called libtagext

* Ogg-Vorbis,
* MPEG (mp3),
* MP4 (m4a),
* ASF (wma),
* FLAC and
* Ogg-FLAC.
NOTE: The following tag options are only supported by this program.
You can use them only on the audio files mentioned above.

In VLC the 'extra metadata' tab of media information, is just sitting there empty all the time when it could be showing more id3 v2 tags (especially id3 v2) stuff that is extra found in audio files.
There are users who listen to less contemporary purchased audio that has this info such as 'conductor' and 'composer'
What about using this free extension to have the correct id3 v2 tag reading of 'Publisher' tag in VLC 1.0/1.1 ?
