unhappy with playlist handling

I want to perform these simple tasks, but vlc is not much good support.
I have ripped an album with AudioGrabber, I store each album in its own folder.
Now I want to create a playlist with all the tracks in that folder.
For simplicity, I'd like to create an M3U playlist. I have not found out why I should use xspf, so I wont.
what I dont like about vlc:
* the dialog ALWAYS defaults to save as xspf
I'd like a property like "default playlist format" which I can set to m3u
* the files are stored with absolute file:// URLs
but I would like to be able to move the whole folder somewhere else, eg to a different computer/server.
SO I prefer relative paths
which would justify another property "playlist path: absolute/relative"
playlist manipulation is all through the main window's menu, but playlist is in a separate window. This is somewhat silly, the playlist window could have its own menu bar containing playlist-related commands
in general I am very unhappy with the playlist window - I can sort by various columns, but I have no idea in what order the files are saved when I save the playlist. In fact I sometimes edit the m3u file manually because it's easier than manipulating the unpredictable window.
otherwise, there's so many things I love about VLC, so lets see where it goes!!!!
