Blu-Ray Playback?

Postby dcornibe » 24 May 2009 04:33

Can anyone tell me if VLC offers Blu-Ray playback? If not, I'd like to suggest it here. I'm planning to build a new PC in the coming months and base it on Ubuntu Linux, and I'd like to know if I should get a Blu-Ray drive to play hi-def movies. Does VLC offer Blu-Ray playback directly via Linux, Windows only, or neither? What about Power DVD for Linux (on Ubuntu's online shop)? Does that play Blu-Ray's? Would Win4Lin offer a way to play Blu-Ray's using Power DVD for Windows (which I know plays the BD's), since Win4Lin cannot use DirectX? Someone enlighten me here.

VLC 1.0.0 can decode most Blu-Ray files, but not any official BD Disc
